In 1999, after another break from rowing, Colin Brown (ARA Coaching and Development Officer) the club started a pilot scheme with the Durham Johnston School Boat Club to link schools and clubs by taking ergos into the schools to introduce rowing. This pilot became the ARA’s flagship Young People and Coaching Programme “Project Oarsome” |

After a break of many decades, in 1988 Durham Johnston Comprehensive School re-commenced rowing from Durham ARC.
