In researching for these history pages, we do come across some odd and hitherto unknown peculiarities and this annual event falls into that category.  The event used to take place at Cox Green on the River Wear, which is more familiar to current rowers as the start area for the Hylton Long Distance Sculling Event, just upstream of the Washington Wildfowl Park.<br>

In researching for these history pages, we do come across some odd and hitherto unknown peculiarities and this annual event falls into that category.
