The Newcastle Journal reported: A well-known horticulturist, Mr. Robert J. Cairns (79), has died at Front Street, Prudhoe, where he has resided for 55 years in the same house. Most of his successes as an exhibitor were with sweet peas and leeks. He was for 18 years secretary of the old Prudhoe Rowing Club and was a prize-winning rower.
