8th August - Bell's Life reported: A match has been made between A.G. Haves and W. Fordy, both of Newcastle, to row one mile on the Tyne in covered-in, on 29th August for £5 a side. Mr. W. Blenkinsopp of the Bird and Bush Inn, Pilgrim Street, Newcastle is stakeholder and has received a preliminary deposit.
