Hury Rowing Club was initially founded as Selset Oarsmen, in large part due to the enthusiastic efforts of the Reverend John Lund, who at that time as the Vicar of Hart Village. The Club rowed on Selset Reservoir but changed their name in January 1979 to Hury Rowing Club when they were forced to change their rowing venue to Hury Reservoir.
