In 1910, the “Newcastle Chronicle” Challenge Cup, formerly the trophy for the English Professional Sculling Championship, was donated by Mr Joseph Cowen. It was renamed the “Joseph Cowen” Challenge Cup and has been the principal trophy at the Tyne-at-Home Regatta ever since.
