North Hylton Rowing Club is presumed to have only been in existence for a brief period of a few years, and their exact location is not known, although it is suspected they were in Ferryboat Lane, North Hylton. Although records exist of entries in the Durham Regattas of 1899 through to 1904, newspaper coverage is brief and only appears to mention their prowess on the soccer field rather than on the water. It was common practice for newspapers to publish details of challenges, both in rowing and other sports, as they were made and accepted, and in this case, the prizes appeared to be no more than for a supper!
