This annual fixture betweeen the Universities of Newcastle and Durham commenced in 1997 and is traditionally held over a course from just upstream of the most westerly bridge in the centre of Newcastle, racing through all 6 bridges to finish just past the Millenium Bridge. It is one of the few events in the North East that appeals to many thousands of spectators and the race has been sponsored for many years by Northumbria Water. The Senior Mens Race is raced for the Clasper Trophy. Winners
