Walker and Wallsend Amateur Rowing Club are known to have existed in 1875 - 1898 on the River Tyne.

18th April 1894
The Newcastle Daily Chronicle reported:
Mr Purvis, Hon. secretary to the Walker Rowing Club, announced that a meeting of the members wi11 be held on Thursday evening at 7 o'clock, at the house of Mr Robert Barnes, Victoria Hotel, Walker, with the view of enrolling new members, and the transaction of other important business. A good muster is expected.

Tyne United Rowing Club was founded in 1946 to provide a home for the remnants of the Empire, Hawthorn, Gateshead & District and Walker & Wallsend clubs.
