South Hylton Regatta was initially a regatta for professional oarsmen until the Club turned amateur. The regatta was held at South Hylton, near Sunderland, on a tidal stretch of the river Wear. The Regatta in its later years was run by the South Hylton Rowing Club, which later changed name to the City of Sunderland Rowing Club.
