The Northumberland County Championship Regatta was run on an annual basis but only over a short term by the Northumberland County ARA. It was to replace the Inter-County Championship event in which interest had dwindled. In 1983 it was held at Cambois ARC on the River Wansbeck and the championship events were Mens Fours, and Mens Sculls, with non-championship events for Mens Pairs, Womens Fours, and Mens 2nd class Fours. Competing Clubs were Tyne ARC, Cambois ARC, Tynemouth RC and City of Newcastle RC.
